If you don’t have a great relationship with your teeth, it’s time to figure out how get back on track. One of the best ways to improve your dental health is to learn a little bit about your teeth and better understand whats going on inside the mouth.
The Teeth
Most people have 32 teeth (8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars, and 12 molars). Your wisdom teeth are molars and may or may not be there anymore.
Each one of your teeth is made of tissue. As hard as this tissue may be, it is not the same as your bones. Teeth, if looked at close enough, are actually porous and can collect anything you’re chewing on or drinking.
Saliva
Your saliva is your best defense against tooth decay. However, due to all the delicious additives in food and beverages, saliva can no longer protect your teeth and mouth on its own. Your tooth brush and a strand of dental floss can remove anything that gets stuck in your teeth. Time spend brushing and flossing is the good, quality time your relationship with your teeth needs.
Your Color
Maybe your teeth are clean but not the right shade of white. Your teeth are exposed to dark liquids and foods like chocolate cake, red wine, and coffee. It’s only natural for your teeth to adopt a little shade. Luckily there are many safe ways to whiten. Talk to Dr. Jim about safe whitening options.
Unfortunately, you can’t simply break up with your teeth and find some new ones. If there are pains or visual scars from your years of tooth use, it’s not too late to make some repairs and improve the overall quality of your relationship with your teeth. Creating new habits will ensure a healthy, long relationship.
